When the past is a lens that no longer serves you

What we are today comes from our thoughts of yesterday, and our present thoughts build our life of tomorrow: our life is the creation of our mind. - Gautama Buddha

We, life adventurers, begin our journey as sponges. In the beggining, we didn't know anything about life, society, friendships, love, dreams... As we live, we absorb the experiences.

But this absorption reaches a limit sooner or later. In the same way that a normal sponge works, you will eventually have to squeeze the soap and dirt out several times under running water. Find new place for new experiences.

Without clean sponges, it is difficult to wash the dishes. But why are there people who insist on washing the dishes with a dirty sponge?

It has already happened that sometimes your "plate" of life is not even so dirty, but your job of cleaning it, definitely gets it dirty and spoils your future dinner.

What a crap example, isn't it?

But crap indeed is that we all have this behaviour from time to time (and some stagnate on it). We dirty what we touch and complain that we always find a dirty future. We repeat the feelings and experiences without giving a chance to the new, a chance to increase our repertoire of experiences, emotions and knowledge.

Are you going to tell me that you've never met someone who always knows everything?

Someone who has seen everything about love?

Someone who knows everything about the work field?

Or some old beliefs that stays rooted and start to dictate a direction and destination:

"You weren't born rich."

"You were born in such a country."

"You have no talent."

"You will never find someone like me."

"You are stupid."

Not that the past is a villain. On the opposite, a good past will pave the way to a desirable future. The past is the bridge you needed for a new path.

But paying too much attention to the past is abandoning the life that touches your door. It is to end being for evolution, it is to stop in the path of an infinity of possibilities.

When we're blind with the lens of the past. When we stagnate in life, we don't need to wait until we reach the end of the well. We, ourselves, can administer eye drops for life: tolerance, attention, trust, risking something new. It is not necessary to be rebellious and throw your work or marriage into the air. Only the boldness to deal with situations innovatively. Try to look at the same phenomenon with a new look.

Make room to see and try good and painful experiences.

You can allow yourself to have new relations and responses within the events of life, within emotions, within situations, within the people around you. Why not allow yourself to expand and see that we were made malleable anyway?. One day we are a soggy sponge, in another, we are dry and thirsty for absorbing the environment around us.

Beside this, we should remember there is only the present moment to experience and make changes, to plant new dreams and desires. It is an internal choice, of courage. May you ask yourself a question:

Today do I alloud my life to expand or do I withdraw into the world I already know?
